Giving Birth in Hungary

When I arrived to Budapest in 2014, little did I know I would become a mother here. I was living in Myanmar at the time, and I accepted a job offer to work at the American International school of Budapest. I was single, and I did not know anyone in Hungary.

Fun fact: I had never met a Hungarian person in my life!

Fast forward to 2022 and having had 2 kids in Budapest -one in 2017 and one in 2020- I can now tell you that there is nothing more powerful than a community of moms to share experiences, worries and celebrations with. This is why in 2019 I started the My Birth Story Abroad project, and in 2020, fellow mama and friend Ana Szabo and I created Budapest Moms on Instagram.

Unfortunately, there isn't much information online about Having a Baby in Hungary but this guide written by Réka Morvay might be the best thing ever produced on the topic so far.

If you live in Budapest and find yourself pregnant, reach out. Back in 2019, I created a beautiful support group on Whatsapp for expecting mamas. So far, more than 100 moms have been in it. The knowledge, care, and exchange of useful information in it is truly exceptional.

I am looking forward to hearing from you, please reach out!

In the meantime, and while you're preparing for the arrival of your little one, I strongly encourage you to follow @budapestmoms on Instagram.
